Today the Trail Festival had falconry and archery events. We weren't sure what we were going to be seeing/doing when we bought our tickets but were curious about the topics.
As it ends up, we could have actually tried our hand at archery but we really enjoyed watching young and old alike give it a go. The young men who were manning the archery were very encouraging and made it a good experience for all who participated.
When it was our time slot for the falconry, we discovered we were going to have a very interesting introduction to falconry - and leave us wanting more!
It ends up that the falconry instructor was the father to the two young men doing the archery and it ends up they have a business just outside of Crail, which we had passed several times already,
The sign as you pass on the road says Inspired Falconry and it is the brainchild of
The Scottish Countryman, Steve Brazendale.
He brought a few of his birds of prey -
a Saker Falcon
a Harris Hawk,
a European Eagle Owl,
a Snowy Owl,
and a Barn Owl, which we got to see up close and pet.
My pictures are awful compared to the ones on their website. I really encourage you to click that link and visit his homepage and see some really stunning photos. The details in this owl's feathers were so intricate and fine - exquisite, really.
Steve did an excellent presentation and we hope to be able to visit his place and experience more.
They also offer archery and fly fishing experiences in an absolutely beautiful countryside.
