We made it over to the Cathedral of St. Andrews' ruins this afternoon.
We'd driven by it a few times but hadn't quite grasped the enormity of it's footprint.
This cathedral was huge!
One can only imagine the splendor it afforded those who entered and worshipped.
These rocks were the foundation of the large pillars that supported the roof and lined
the nave of the cathedral. Each rock area supported one column!
There were 20 of these columns in the nave alone.
I love looking through portals and "spying" on what's beyond!
It's not hard to imagine the priors coming and going and performing their many tasks.
It's also not hard to imagine the complete reverence felt by the many
who made the pilgrimage to St. Andrew's Cathedral.
It's perch above the North Sea is regal and heavenly.
Now, a word to the wise. There is a visitor center which charges an entry fee. I was in need of the loo and was half afraid that I was going to have to pay to use the facilities. But after a rather hasty trip to inquire about said facilities, the clerk at the visitor center informed me that there was a restroom, free, just outside.
Well, this is to what he was referring. Absolutely no sign stating that behind
one of these doors is a toilet!
So let me show you where it is!
Third door on the right!
It's only one toilet and for use by both men and women.
As you approach the visitor center, this row of doors is to the right as you look towards the town.
You're welcome.
I'm becoming enthralled with the gray skies that this landscape calls their own.
Just look at those clouds!
