St. Andrews

We meant to go to St. Andrews to have lunch and see the ruins but it ended up being lunch and I shop while Owen hit some balls!

We ate at a fish restaurant/market called TAILEND and it was fabulous!  I wasn't going to get fish and chips again but when the server walked by with some for another table, and I could see the light through the flaky batter, I changed my mind!  The fish was fantastic, no doubt, but the mushy peas were the best I ever had!  So fresh tasting!  Sometimes they can taste like they came out of a can and were mashed up from there.  But these tasted freshly popped from their pods, maybe blanched, and then mashed.  So very good!  I even used them as a dip for my chips!  We ended with the Sticky Toffee Pudding because - they sold it - it was there - and one should never, ever, pass up Sticky Toffee Pudding.  It was very good.  Not disappointed about that decision.

After we ate we got a couple "burner" phones at a Vodaphone store. We figured since we would be abroad for so long it would make it easier to keep in touch with each other.  But "burner" phone seems to be the slang used in the detective and murder shows.  As soon as the request "We'd like to see about getting some burner phones" came out of our mouth I felt like we were on the lam - guilty-looking - a little skizzy.  But the sales person helped us out by quickly suggesting that what we wanted was a "pay-as-you-go" phone.  Oh yes, YES!  That's what we're after!  Visions of our mugshots quickly were erased and replaced with ones of us starring in an ad for phones for seniors as he showed us our options.  No smart phones for us!  It was back to old school texting.  Meh, It's just for calls if we get lost or end up having a change of plan while we're apart.  They were easy AND inexpensive.  Mission accomplished!

From there my husband went to a golf store and then hit some balls. I spent the afternoon enjoying myself in all the cute shops. I was delighted to be reminded that a FAT FACE store was there!  Such cute clothes - I always have a hard time deciding what I should buy.

I was able to find some more things from our "needs" list around town.  And then made my way down to the ruins where I could text Owen to come meet me.  My path took me through some of the back or side streets of St. Andrews where all the quaint homes are and they're so inviting!  Especially this one with the orange front door - these are my people!
